Human Footprint
The
human footprint
is a map of human influence on nature. A study in 2002 estimated that human beings touch 83% of the land, and 98% of the places where it is possible to grow rice, wheat or corn.
Web-enabled maps
give us the ability to see how patterns of "over-the-horizon" consumption impact nature on a national and landscape scale.
